Floating Villas, Maritime Training, Accounting Scholarships

Local resort construction company Hotels & Resorts Investment Maldives signed an agreement with Meyer Floating Solutions to develop luxury floating water villas. The higher education ministry awarded 200 scholarships to train chartered professional accountants, including 50 slots opened to the public sector and 150 slots from the open category.

The scholarship covers application fee, registration fee, annual subscription fee and examination fees. Tuition fee is covered for studies at Maldivian colleges and universities.

The Maldives Ports Limited signed an agreement to offer training and higher education for port staff at the Netherlands Maritime University College.

In addition to shorter training programmes, six MPL employees will have the opportunity to enrol in a bachelors degree level programme every year. The state-owned company will cover the expenses of staff who travel for training and education, MPL CEO Shahid Ali said at the agreement signing ceremony.

MPL and MNUC also agreed to jointly conduct research on developing the maritime sector in the Maldives.

The Bank of Maldives Community Fund financed the development of an outdoor reading park in Shaviyani Milandhoo.

The park was among 10 winning proposals during the first phase of this year’s Community Fund, which aims to “empower NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects.”
