The Maldives State Shipping company’s second cargo ship, the MSS Chrome – a bulk carrier purchased to import construction material – became the largest vessel ever registered under the Maldivian flag.

A subsidiary of the State Trading Organisation, MSS began operations in 2020. Its first ship, MSS Galena, began carrying goods from Colombo last year.

A new outlet of the Mango clothing brand opened in Malé. Located on Majeedhee Magu a short distance from its first store, the outlet is dedicated to children and menswear.

LottieFiles, a tech startup co-founded by Maldivian developer Nasrullah Adnan, raised US$37 million in funding from investors that include Microsoft Venture Fund.

The company helps turn animations made in design software into the Lottie file format for easy placement in apps.

The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company lifted controls imposed on fish purchasing in early April after the daily catch exceeded MIFCO’s storage capacity in the south.

The state-owned company faced protests over the purchasing limit, which was briefly lifted to weigh all the fish caught by more than 60 boats queued at the Kooddoo fisheries complex, a buildup that took days to clear.
